Top websites I use to publish my photos- Part II: Social Media

Part II: Social Media

  • Google+
Google+ is a great place for photographers. Just join one or more of the many photography communities and share your photos with them. Lots of recognition and some comments on your good work are guaranteed. Often you are also added to other’s circle, which means that they will see every new post you make in their newsfeed. So you are always visible to them. I highly recommend Google+.

  • Facebook
People who have read my previous posts know that I am not the greatest of all Facebook fans. Especially not after their recent changes to the visibility of your posts. Still, Facebook is an important social media and you should have a private account and a page there. Don’t expect as many “Likes” as “+1’s” on Google.
Tip: Try out advertising your Facebook page. I’m still experimenting with it, and so far I can say it is worth it. It is cheap and you can narrow down the audience to be reached to your exact requirements.

  • Flickr
Everybody says, as a photographer you have to be on Flickr. So far I am not too sure about it. I miss comments about my work and the views aren’t great either. What are your experiences with Flickr?

  • You tube
I only recently added a you tube channel to my reservoir of social media accounts. It is definitely very powerful and can bring some automatic money by advertising when you reach a certain amount of views.

  • Twitter
There is not much work for me on Twitter, because most of the websites allow automatic sharing to Twitter. So I have an account and don’t have to do very much to maintain it. Post all your events here, keep your followers and clients updated. As I have only recently opened up a new account for my new business there, you will find only 1 follower on my profile, but that will change very soon. Find people and businesses you like and follow them and they will soon start following you. Recommended.

  • Tumblr
I share my blog posts at WordPress automatically with Tumblr. Easy to maintain.

  • Pinterest
If you get an account with Pinterest you can a special toolbar of them which makes it easy to pin photos. Whenever you like a photo or want to promote your own work, just click on “Pin it” in the toolbar and the URL with photo will be displayed on Pinterest. Very easy to do.

  • My Space
My Space used to be great. Since a few days there is the new My Space. I have checked it out yesterday and got a new account there. I can’t say very much about it yet. My first impression isn’t the greatest, but I like the full screen display of my photos.

There are so many sites not, I wish there could just be one that you post and publish to and it would update all of the others. I see a gap in the market!

Yes, you are right. Most pages are offering share buttons for facebook and twitter now, but I’m still missing the perfect social media site.
