Swop indoors against outdoors: I want out!

January 31, 2013 Leave a comment

I am grateful that it is the last day of January today. A month of editing photos, tagging them, organising them in albums and experimenting with them lies behind me. The mostly dull month of January didn’t give me much of an opportunity to take new shoots. So I was confined to my PC working on editing as well as social networking. It is all fun, but hopefully the grey days are over soon and I can get out there again and do what I like most: Take photos of new and exciting places!

On my agenda this year are definitely visits to the Lake District and Snowdonia as well as revisiting Dorset. On my drive-through last year I was very impressed with Corfe Castle, the deserted village of Tyneham and the beautiful coastline at Lulworth Cove. I will camp with my girl-friend at the campsite at Burnbake which is highly recommended by her. I am looking very forward to that.

I’d also like to take her for a visit to Germany to show her some of the nicest parts. The trip is intended to enclose the beautiful Baltic Coast and the stunning mountain scenery in the Bavarian Alps. Of course, Neuschwanstein Castle is a must.

Until then it’s just planning and dreaming of far and not so far away places and waiting for spring time and the sun to come out and end this dull winter.

I WANT OUT!

Hangovers, habits and holidays

January 1, 2013 Leave a comment

First of all, it is great to start the New Year without having a hangover. I always thought it is quite stupid to end the old year with a piss-up not remembering most of it and start the New Year feeling sick and miserable. So I left the old year sober and started the New Year full of energy and plans.

With plans I don’t mean resolutions, because resolutions are there to be kicked. No, I’m talking about real plans that will continue on the path I have decided to go last year. 2012 was great, 2013 will be even better.

What made 2012 so great? Many things, but the one outstanding is definitely meeting my girl-friend Frances. We’ve been together for more than half a year now and it is getting better every day. I honestly never ever felt like this before.

This puts my travels in 2012 a bit in the shade, but they were great, too. Exploring the British Isles, I went to Scotland, Dorset, and twice to Cornwall. Thanks to Frances, I know a few “non-touristy” parts of London now and really started to love that city. Stoke Newington and Stamford Hill are just great. And last not least, I went for a few trips to Brighton, my former hometown.

Professionally I got into HDR photography, in which I sort of got addicted to. I just love it. I also learned a lot about “normal” photography. During spring and summer I worked on my walking holiday business. Not very successfully, but at least it kept me fit. And towards the end of the year I started building a new website. This might be in for a surprise once it is finished.

What will 2013 bring? Travel plans include the Isle of Wight (very soon), camping in Dorset (Burnbake), a trip to Germany (Mecklenburg-Pomerania and Bavaria) and hopefully the Lake District and Snowdonia. A big change of scenery might be on the agenda, too, and I can’t be sure that I will still be living in Hastings by the end of the year. Priorities for 2013 are Frances and spending more time with her, getting ahead with photography and my new website. And yes, there is one resolution. I’d love to give up smoking. A stupid habit that is hard to kick.

So, no ghastly hangovers, no bad habits and lots of holidays to all of you!
